What is the author arguing?
Dwight D Eisenhower is arguing to keep peace between all the nations when he isn't president anymore, this was his farewell speech. He doesn't want the military complex to take over and cause the countries to be "unbalanced", he wants the peace to remain when he is gone.
How does the author appeal to logos (logic), pathos (emotional quality), and ethos (the writer's perceived character) with their argument?
He appeals logos because he said, "good judgement seeks balance and progress lack of it eventually finds imbalance and frustration." This is used as logos in his argument because logically he is using balance as a comparison to the countries, without it all the countries would be imbalanced and the peace wouldn't have a reason to stay.
He appeals pathos because he stated, " As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war." This is explaining that emotionally who has either experienced being in a war, or having someone they love in a war hurts to see someone fight but fighting causes them to lose their lives.
And he uses ethos because he is just really perceiving his thoughts as a president, and explaining how he doesn't want the peace to be forgotten.
What is the historical significant/relevant of this document?
The significance of this document is that he is just stating how he wants his country to stay in peace, and this is sigificant because this speech goes deep into thoughts to explain how he feels. He doesn't want the peace to be destroyed by a wrong president so he's letting his country know what he wants when he is no longer president.
Do you find the authors argument convincing? Why or why not?
I do find his argument convincing because he is giving several examples of why he has to give this speech to his country. He sounded like he is really dedicated to his country, and trying to prevent it from failing into a war that they can't get out of. This speech is very convincing because it really shows that he loved his country and will when he isn't president any longer.

CDL: Fascism: Adolf Hitler and National Socialism
Summary:
By 1933, Germany's leader Adolf Hitler had rose to power. He overthrown democracy and changed Germany with his Fascist dictatorship. Hitler had blamed Communists and jews for the almost all his problems, such as the lost of war. His main goal for all this was too actually rearm Germany and expand their territory. By doing all this Hitler had decreased the unemployment rate. The Nazi's also organized boycotts, they made laws such as the "nazi" salute. His power then caused him to start to killing and put 100,000 of socialist, union members, communist, and others who didn't obey his rules into concentration camps just to punished anyone who didn't believe in the nazi's laws, so that the will then learn to obey it.Throughout Hitler's dictatorship he was an evil, cruel, and demanding. He took out democracy and killed thousands of people, and he didn't help bring the economy back up. He wasn't a good person, he didn't really help out his country in a positive way because he did what he felt like he thought was right in his mind. Even though he was a dictator for twelve years he didn't really help Germany. In my opinion, i think he just set his country up for failure.
Question:
1. If hitler never rose to the top of the leader board, how do you think this would have effected our future today?
2. Do you think that the people of Germany regret voting for the Nazi's as the head of the Government after all this had happened? why? or why not?

Defense of the League of Nations,Woodrow Wilson, September 1919
1.What is the author arguing?
In the document Woodrow Wilson is arguing to have the United States put into the League of Nations. The reason why he wanted the United States to join the League was because he wanted justice, liberty, and peace brought to the world.
2.How does the author appeal to logos(logic), pathos(emotional quality), and ethos(the writers perceived characters) with their argument?
Woodrow Wilson appeals to logos with his argument because he brings up article "X", and "XI" which means that the nations would have to be obligated to do it. By bringing up these articles he is giving us examples of why we should be apart of the League of Nations. Wilson appeals pathos with his argument because in the text it says, "...my fellow citizens, mothers who lost their sons in France have come to me and, taking my hand, have shed tears upon it not only, but they have added god bless you..." This shows pathos because he is saying that even though your child has died in the war, they are blessed for doing a good deed for their country. He uses ethos to appeal to his argument because he says, "My friends, on last Decoration Day, I went to a beautiful hillside near Paris where located the cemetery of Suresnes, a cemetery given over to the burial of the american dead."This is explaining that the soldiers who fought in the world should have peace when they die.
3. What is the historical significance/relevance of this document?
The significance of this document is that Woodrow Wilson is explaining why he believes that he should push the United States to join the League of Nations, and how it would help bring peace into the world. This document helps to try to have countries talk to each other instead of always resulting in violence.
4. Do you find the author’s argument convincing? Why or why not?
I find Wilson's argument convincing because he stated facts, and not lies. He didn't guarantee the world to be peaceful he added that just because they join the League of Nations doesn't prevent war from happening. He explained the pro, and cons of why they should join and he supported each fact to help support what he was saying.
